JHR provides programs designed to take people from the streets of Baltimore to a self sufficient life with a job, stable housing and free from substance abuse. We serve the poor and indigent in Baltimore without charge.
JHR operates two homeless shelters in Baltimore – one for men and women --JHR Homeless Resource Center and one for women with children – JHR Family Center (link). Our shelters operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and provide beds, meals, showers and case management services. Between the two shelters, we served about 350 homeless each day.
JHR also operates two addiction recovery programs in Baltimore. JHR Carrington House is a residential recovery program for men in West Baltimore. Carrington House accepts homeless men who are seeking a path to recovery from substance abuse. JHR accepts men into the program without charge and provides housing, meals, intensive counseling, education and vocational opportunities. Men can live at Carrington House for up to two years.
JHR has a Shared Housing Program in South Baltimore for men who have completed the program at Carrington House or at another recovery program and are ready for semi- independent living. JHR provides subsidized housing and on-going recovery support for men who are working or pursing their education while continuing to maintain their recovery goals. The JHR Shared Housing program is located in 8 townhomes located in South Baltimore. Men can live in the JHR Shared Housing units for up to 5 years.
JHR has its own social enterprise program that provides job training experiences for its clients and income to support its programs.
