Riding the elevator from the garage up to the 5th floor at the JHR Homeless Resource Center at 210 Guilford Ave., is a comforting feeling for many of our homeless clients, but it can also be a reminder - a reminder of how much they have lost or, of a dark time in their lives. However, now when those elevator doors open our clients are greeted by a glimpse of inspiration.
One of our clients at the shelter has been able to show each one of us that there is always hope, no matter what your predicament may be - by painting a beautiful mural. The mural captures the faith that people utilize for the foundation of their lives. The rich colors and attention to detail makes this mural a true work of art.
The artist told us that his vision was to create an illustration where each and every individual would be able to find some element that they can relate to.
One of the panels in this mural shows a man helping his fellow man out of a pit. According to the artist, every individual is at the bottom of their own personal pit and, sometimes all it takes is the help from another human being to pull you out.
On another panel, the artist has drawn a man walking through obstacles with a blindfold on. The artist explained that he painted this panel to illustrate that we all have obstacles standing in the way of our goals and many times it just takes faith in something more than ourselves to help us achieve those goals.
The mural has proven to be an enlightening and inspiring piece for many of the clients at the shelter.
