On January 19th, seven Carrington House men were honored at an exciting and auspicious occasion. The men graduated from Ms. Norma Johnson's Educational and Vocational Program class. The class, which lasted 4 months, carried the men on a journey in which they learned many life skills that most of them had no knowledge of prior to this class. Among the many life skills that Ms. Norma taught the men were: sewing, cooking, how to do laundry ‘correctly’, health awareness, and managing their finances.
The class also focused on getting the men job ready.
This included classes on: resume building, setting up e-mail addresses and learning interviewing techniques.
Along with classroom work, Ms. Norma utilized her connections to take the men on 2 field trips and invited a number of guest speakers to come and share with the men.
The work the men put into this class culminated in an inspirational graduation. The most touching segment of the graduation was the testimonials from the men speaking about the impact the class had on them and presenting Ms. Norma with a gift of appreciation.
