The Road to Recovery
On Sunday morning, November 28, 2010, fire swept through the Administrative offices of Jobs, Housing and Recovery, Inc. at 2113 East Oliver Street in Baltimore, Maryland, destroying everything in its path.
Baltimore City Firefighters were called in at approximately 10:45 a.m. to battle the 2-alarm blaze, which raged for more than an hour and a half before it was brought under control.
When the flames were extinguished, all that remained was a few pieces of charred furniture, broken glass and muddy rubble – and JHR’s Administrative staff was left without a permanent home as we headed into our busiest season of the year.
Everything tangible was lost in the blaze – computers, records, supplies and furniture. The loss was overwhelming…but our staff was hard at work the very next day rebuilding JHR’s operations
We are happy to report that no one was injured in the blaze, and our programs were not affected. First from their homes and cars and then from a crowded temporary office in one of our program locations, JHR’s dedicated Administrative staff has worked tirelessly to keep things running smoothly at our Homeless Resource Center, at Carrington House and in our Veterans program and Lighthouse Communities., We haven’t missed a beat !
Thanks to the kindness of many wonderful friends and supporters, we’ve come a long way in the weeks since the fire…but the journey toward recovery has just begun, and much remains to be done.
In the days ahead, JHR will be engaging community leaders and friends in the recovery process as we reach out to the people of Baltimore for assistance with our Fire Recovery Fund. To find out how you can help, contact Ms. Meg Ducey , JHR’s Director of Development, at: 410-852-4540. Bless you for your kindness!
