Carrington House is a residential substance abuse recovery facility in West Baltimore for poor and indigent men. The program provides a highly structured, recovery-based program for men who have completed detoxification and who are ready to face the issues leading to their addictions. The program is designed to assist men who want a better life and are willing to do the work to achieve it.
Requirements for intake interview: In order to be considered for admission to the Carrington House program, candidates must be willing to participate fully in the JHR transitional educational program, have documentation of homelessness (through referral from a shelter or treatment center), a substance abuse history, and at least 28 days of clean time (after completing a detoxification program and/or being tested for verification of abstinence). If accepted, clients may stay in the program for as long as 24 months. Once clients start earning an income, they are required to pay 30% of their income as a program fee.
Services provided to participants:
· All meals.
· Semi- private bedroom.
· Daily group counseling
· Individual counseling (includes short and long term goal assessment).
· Educational/ vocational assessment and training including opportunities to pursue a GED or college.
· Employment advice and/or access to jobs in businesses formed by JHR and employers in its network, as well as referrals to job placement services.
· Relapse prevention classes and recovery workshops.
· Specialized workshops including money management, nutrition, anger management, and parenting.
· Opportunities to volunteer in the community.
Staff members:
All staff members at Carrington House are recovering from substance abuse. Their example shows the residents that recovery, self-sufficiency, and re-entry into society are realistic and attainable goals.
